Q. What Trader has influenced your life the most?
A. Chris Hehmeyer
Q. Single worst food you can put in your body?
A. Sugar
Q. Single best food you can put in your body?
A. Colorful Vegetables
Q. What do you eat at the airport?
A. Tortas Frontera at O’Hare – Tacqueria Salad add chicken, no cheese, dressing on the side; chips and guac if I’m only looking for a snack.
Q. Three supplements that you recommend often and why?
A. Magnesium Citrate, Birbrane and Vitamin D
Magnesium is a wonder mineral. It comes in many forms, but magnesium citrate in particular is what I reach for most often. Taken before bed it helps improve sleep quality and dampen the stress response. In larger amounts it will relieve constipation. It helps stabilize blood sugar and at the right dose will decrease blood pressure.
Berberine also supports fasting glucose, promotes a healthy microbiome, and in the right dose can help lower cholesterol.
Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin, supports the immune system to fight infections, has a positive impact on autoimmune conditions, supports mood/provides relief from depression and supports healthy hormone function (thyroid, sex hormones, cortisol, etc.) I recommend getting your levels tested (data-driven!), supplementing to bring that number to between 50-60 and retesting to make sure you are in the sweet spot.
Q. Best form of exercise?
A. Strength Training
Q. What was one of the hardest things you’ve had to overcome practicing natural medicine?
A. Finding a way to help people get out of their own way to make the changes necessary to produce the outcomes they want! I have learned that trying to convince others to do something is wildly ineffective. They have to want the outcomes as much – if not more – than I do. This challenge has lead me to develop a way of working with people that revolves around five principles:
1) Know your outcome: what is your vision of health and vitality?
2) Know your why: why must you have these outcomes?
3) Information: what information do we need to gather in order to develop a custom path (ie treatment plan) towards your vision of vitality?
4) Strategy: we identify your duplicate-able strategies for success
5) Practice: Consistency is key, mindful practice – not perfection – will allow for your progress
Q. If you had to elevator pitch me your edge as a healthcare provider what would it be?
A. Honestly, I think it’s my commitment. The knowledge, education and clinical expertise should be a given in a healthcare provider. I love seeing people realize their fullest potential. You can’t do this if you feel crummy or your life is at threat. I’d also add that my individualized, data-driven, outcome-oriented, scientifically grounded natural approach is unique in this day and edge. So my approach is my edge too.
Q. Your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?
A. Spending time with Chris and our family.
